Pakistan's National AI Hub

Led by LUMS, Built for Pakistan

Pakistan's first nationally coordinated AI Hub — a strategic partnership between LUMS and Aga Khan University, supported by a multi-year grant from the Gates Foundation. The Hub builds national capacity for responsible, high-impact AI innovation.

We start with maternal, newborn, and child health — where Pakistan's needs are most urgent. The Hub is built to extend into other national priorities over time.

The urgency
186
maternal deaths per 100,000 live births in Pakistan

Among the highest rates in South Asia. The causes are known — hemorrhage, eclampsia, sepsis — and most are preventable with earlier identification of risk, faster referral, and decision support for the frontline workers who reach women first.

Where the work begins

On Pakistan's front line

A basic health centre in rural Sindh. This is where the Hub's tools will be tested, refined, and deployed — in the hands of Lady Health Workers and facility staff, close to the women and newborns they serve.

Support Frontline Workers

Empower LHWs, midwives, and facility staff with AI-powered decision support tools.

Develop Regional Language & Speech Tools

Build voice and language AI for Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi, Pashto, and other regional languages to bridge literacy and access barriers.

Build National AI Capacity

Train health workers, researchers, and public sector officials for meaningful AI adoption across Pakistan's institutions.

Build National AI Frameworks

Establish ethical governance, responsible AI policy, and data standards for AI deployment in safety-critical environments.
